Cloth, Garden, and Behind were first exhibited between 8th and 21st January, 2024 at Karaköy Tarihi Un Değirmeni Binası in İstanbul. All the works were specifically produced for Olimpos Sergileri III Enteriyör group show, curated by Taner Ceylan.
With Cloth, I focused on the emotional essence of interior spaces by exploring obscured objects and landscape-like forms within an empty house. This approach allowed me to uncover the hidden layers of such spaces from a relatively close angle. Garden, led me to explore abandoned industrial spaces, now reclaimed by nature. These sites have transformed into small ecosystems, home to diverse life forms. The presence of plants and trees obscures the remnants of the interior spaces they inhabit.
The contrast between these two approaches inspired a third one. Behind is based on spatial qualities of photographic surface and the combination of three dimensions. In this way, the illusionist relationship that painting and photography establish with the surface is combined with the spatiality I borrow from sculpture and architecture. My method of using frosted glass placed at different heights creates an inverse relationship between near and far, detaching the photograph from the surface and transforming it into a material with physical depth.
